While photographers usually try to avoid image blur when capturing photos, there are times when it can be used as a powerful tool that lets you shoot unique photos.

Image blur is a result of using slower shutter speeds when capturing moving subjects, or due to camera movement during image capture. The captured blur is used to convey motion in the frame while sometimes it leads to abstract images that can truly capture a viewer’s attention. Blur arising due to the use of shallow depth of field can sometimes produce striking results too.

There really is no limit to experimenting and getting creative with using blur when photographing. This post is a collection of some amazing photographs that demonstrate the creative possibilities when utilizing blur as a composition tool. We hope that they inspire you to create such images of your own.

If you’d like to explore the idea of using image blur in your photography, do take a look at our new Embrace the Blur extended case studies to learn and ‘borrow’ unique ideas from specific examples.
