In photography, light is everything. Without light, there would be no photos. It is light that our cameras capture, after all, to create photographs. Most shots rely chiefly on ambient lighting – the available light that is already present in a scene, unless you are using artificial lighting like flash light or lamps.

Photographing indoors can be challenging if you lack dedicated lighting equipment. However, there is one source of ambient light that can very often provide you with beautiful results when shooting indoors – the light coming through your window. Portrait photographs benefit greatly from directional lighting and window light is an excellent source of one. Such a light adds drama, mood and interest to a portrait.
